Aku is a character created by former MLB player turned artist, Micah Johnson, after hearing a young boy ask, “Can astronauts be black?”

How questions inspired changes

Micah Johnson, a former MLB player took an unexpected change of career paths after being asked the question, "What do you do when you are not playing baseball?" This led him down the path to becoming an artist. After hearing the question, "Can astronauts be black?" Micah created Aku and debuted him on February 21st 2021 with the Genesis.001 drop on Nifty Gateway.

Genesis.001 is a beautiful and inspiring art piece that displays a young African American walking down a hall with an astronaut helmet on. As he walks, original artwork created by Micah Johnson hangs on the walls showing other young children wearing astronaut helmets.

Genesis.001 is the first of ten digital pieces in the "Aku The Moon God" collection. Each chapter continues to tell the story showing parts of the future and taking us into the American past.

This is not the only place where you can find Aku. You can find "Akutars," a profile picture collection, you might have seen him on the cover of the Time Magazine (Aug 15th 2022) and soon, in movie theatres around the globe.
